About
The Bamboo Theatre
The Bamboo Theatre is a contemporary, intergenerational theatre company dedicated to using the arts as a tool for social change. We create powerful, thought-provoking performances that highlight pressing societal issues while engaging communities in meaningful dialogue and action.
Rooted in participatory theatre practices such as Forum Theatre, our work goes beyond performance, we collaborate with youths, schools, and local communities to tell authentic stories, amplify unheard voices, and inspire collective problem-solving.
Theatre Production
Our productions include impactful initiatives such as the Townhall Theatre Show and the National Literature Alive Project, both designed to foster dialogue, encourage audience participation, and drive community-centered solutions.
Through stage productions, workshops, and community-based engagements, The Bamboo Theatre continues to nurture creativity, promote cultural expression, and empower individuals to become active agents of change in society.
The Founder
Sylvia Ojei holds a master’s degree in Theatre and Global Development from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, where she focused her expertise on community theatre and the impact of theatre in the lives of the aged and people living in isolation and stereotype.
While in the UK, she has worked part time with a number of UK theatre organizations from Mind The Gap, which works alongside artists with learning disabilities to create exciting, surprising and challenging experiences for regional, national and international audiences, to charity organizations such as ‘Older People’s Action in the Locality’ (OPAL), which supports older people to live happy, healthy, informed lives in their own homes.
Currently, Sylvia is focused on culture sustainability, mindset re-orientation and development within her community and beyond, using theatre as a tool.
She is a pet lover and enjoys playing table tennis, basketball, reading, drawing and home making. Sylvia is happily married with a child.
